Gatserelia Design: AI Restaurant

Located in the heart of Vienna's Golden Quarter, Gatserelia Designs have developed 'AI Restaurant', an innovative Asian restaurant taking the city by storm with its unique and edgy vibe.

Stylish, exclusive, and cosmopolitan are just some of the words used to describe Vienna; its contemporary architecture blends seamlessly with its heritage-protected surroundings. With its streets lined with luxury brands, the Golden Quarter is one of the most highly sought after and fashionable locations, the perfect place for a stylish and edgy restaurant to take centre stage. Created by Beirut-based studio Gatserelia Designs, explore the impressive backdrop to one of Vienna's edgiest restaurants and bars.

The restaurant is set out over two floors and can seat one hundred and thirty people, with additional space located at the bar. The design of the area is characterised by its powerful lines, preferred choice of materials and contemporary finishes. The absence of perfect geometry in the existing site has also allowed Gatserelia Design to embrace a unique layout and style that feeds through its decor, containing geometrical and sculptured elements that direct the eye to smaller social settings. A soft colour palette has been used in the upholstery of the chairs, injecting colour and warm tones whilst differentiating the use of space from the bar to lounge seating.

The sculptural staircase winds around the elevator, encasing it with beautiful geometric glass and brass cladding. The design connects the Robata Grill to the sushi bar in an animated fashion, merging with the creation of the ceiling for a unified presence. Round suspension lighting on the ground floor is designed to soften the sharp edges of its surroundings, whilst on the top floor, Gatserelia Design used dynamic copper grids to conceal the ceiling's technical components, playing with light and lines which transform the ambience of the restaurant as the evening sets in.

The studio selected Badoglio imperial marble to contrast with the warmer, shimmering tones of the copper walls and ceiling panels, polished to subtly reflect movement and lighting within the space. Refining luxury, leather has been meticulously stitched to the bar and walls, complemented with the soft grains of the American walnut used on the tables. Whilst the city's surrounding areas have heavily influenced the style of AI, Gatserelia Design has ensured a progression and evolution of style unlike anything in Vienna, as a nod to the exciting future that the city will deliver.
