Introducing Alchemist, the latest lighting collection by Lee Broom. Alchemist delves into the ancient art of alchemy, transforming base metals into coveted objects while also reflecting its spiritual and mystical meanings. Inspired by the concepts presented in Paul Coelho's novel ‘The Alchemist,’ Broom envisioned a lighting collection that explores both the tangible aspects of alchemy and its metaphysical dimensions, incorporating themes from astrology, mythology, and folklore. You can view the entire collection in the Alchemist video below.

The collection comprises four distinct lighting ranges: Mythos, Gemini, Solstice, and King, featuring pendant lights, chandeliers, and wall sconces. It highlights the traditional brass welding process, skilfully merging this base metal with glass, acrylic, and leather. Like all Lee Broom products, the Alchemist collection is meticulously crafted and assembled at Lee Broom’s London factory.

MYTHOS

Mythos is a brass pendant light comprising one or two sculptural links that support an illuminated glass orb. The Mythos Duo variant is hung from a hand-stitched leather strap, serving as a sling for the links, and hidden connections make it nearly impossible to see how the orb illuminates. Additionally, Mythos is offered as a single pendant hung by a cord. Its appearance changes dramatically from different perspectives, showcasing both linear and curvaceous traits that enable the light from the sphere to refract beautifully within the brass. Available in satin and blackened brass— the latter being a new finish for Broom—Mythos stands out for its timeless elegance and innovative design. In crafting this fixture, Broom drew inspiration from various sources, including the Greek myth of Prometheus and ancient jewellery. It can be displayed as a solo pendant or in clusters and has also been designed as a stylish wall light, featuring a single link that supports an illuminated orb.

GEMINI

Gemini captures the quintessential traits of the astrological sign while nodding to the tools like crucibles and flasks found in alchemical workshops. This sophisticated light fixture consists of two contrasting halves that asymmetrically connect to form a sleek, linear illumination. It can be displayed either horizontally or vertically, featuring an illuminated capsule that has been sliced and shifted to showcase a brushed brass facade reminiscent of Broom’s renowned Crescent Light, where all construction elements are intentionally concealed. Drawing from the elegance of Art Deco and innovative modernism, Gemini's allure lies in its harmonious form and clean lines. Additionally, Gemini can be arranged in multiples, expanded both horizontally and vertically, to craft custom arrangements of light in various configurations.

SOLSTICE

Solstice draws inspiration from the ancient site of Stonehenge and its associated spiritual observances during the Summer and Winter Solstices. The illuminated, opaque glass globe of Solstice symbolizes the sun, while the square brass structure surrounding it echoes the monolithic shapes of the stones. Blending elements of 1960s lighting design, Solstice embodies the fusion of mid-century aesthetics with the essence of midsummer. Designed as a single pendant, it can also be grouped with others, forming a stunning tower of light with two or three globes. Just as the earth and sun traverse the celestial sphere, each Solstice fixture can be adjusted to create your own heavenly arrangement. Made from brushed brass available in a classic or blackened finish, Solstice can also be envisioned as a surface-mounted sconce, elegantly poised against the wall.

KING

The King is a magnificent chandelier of notable size that straddles the realms of art and design. It consists of individually crafted brushed metal leaves, meticulously folded, tapered, and hand-brushed to form several tiered rings. Each ring conceals a subtle glow that envelops the golden leaves, casting both shadows and light. As a standalone sculpture, King draws inspiration from the King of Salem in ‘The Alchemist’ and the legend of King Arthur, which is reflected in its crown-like shape. This piece combines medieval elements with a touch of brutalism, appearing striking when dim and radiant when fully lit. Available in two sizes, it comes in Large at 90cm (35.5 inches) in diameter and Extra Large at 1.2m (47.25 inches), making King the centrepiece of the Alchemist collection.
