Next Level launches its second edition during the 2019 edition of NYC X Design, showcasing an impressive collection of contemporary furniture and art designs.
Next Level launches its second edition showcase during NYC X Design 2019. Going against the grain of traditional design shows, Next Level manages to inject a fresh and unique perspective into the world of contemporary design with a collaborative approach that sees impressive works of art, lighting and furniture design from a range of creators, styled as a unified space. Set against a dark backdrop of black painted walls and recycled tyre mulch flooring, each piece stands out distinctively, allowing visitors to walk around and engage with the beautifully curated designs. L'aviva Home - Agave Lighting
The beautiful Agave lighting collection takes its inspiration from the shape and character of the piña—the heart of the agave plant. Available in three variations of size and two types of glass, the collection can be paired with one another to create dramatic lighting installations for interiors great and small.
Fort Standard - Cooperage Round
Furniture design that attracts attention - Fort Standard showcases their impressive Cooperage Round dining table with matching stools, crafted from natural white oak paired with roasted oak to create a striking striped design. The design, along with its name takes inspiration from the 'cooper' profession - a craftsperson that makes wooden barrels.
Kin & Company - Wave Table II
An impressive contemporary coffee table design created from curved sheets of rolled steel. A unique heat treatment process gives the steel surface its distinct multicoloured finish. The structure is then topped with an oval pane of glass ready to add sculptural form and beauty to the home.
Tala - Voronoi Lights
Taking light bulbs to new levels with Tala's 'Voroni' LED light design. Available in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and finishes, the brand creates a dramatic installation at the entrance to the show, demonstrating the beauty and elegance of the design.
Asher Israelow Studio - Table
New York furniture designer and founder of Next Level Asher Israelow presents a galactic-style dining table, mapping history through the stars with a custom Starmap inlay on the surface of the furniture to add depth.
Fiddle Hammer - Bellaphone
A functional work of art, the Bellaphone is a wooden horn speaker crafted from reclaimed whiskey barrels, a contemporary take on a traditional design. Fiddle Hammer exhibited two creations during the show, providing music for guests and visitors to the show.
Volk Furniture - Color-blocked - Sebastian Etagere
Adding pops of bold colour to shelving design - Volk Furniture showcases the impressive 'Color-Blocked' series by Sebastian Etagere. Crafted in solid white oak and finished in various bold lacquer colours, the unit has a simple yet artistic presence.
A Space - Found II
Fourteen one-of-a-kind abstract objects are cut from a single piece of 10"-thick stone. These fascinating designs are polished on one side, juxtaposed with the natural untreated surface on the other, referencing the mountains of origin.
Kin & Company - Remains Light
A beautiful and abstract addition to the home, Kin & Company's 'Remains Light' is a Collaboration with Bianco Light & Space. The semi-circle of hand-cast glass transforms from purple to pink when illuminated, adding further character to the piece in and out of use. The design is available in a variety of sizes, materials and finishes.
Kate Duncan - Writing Desk
A new take on the writing desk - Kate Duncan's creation uses North American hardwoods in its construction which is complemented by a leather veneer top. The beautiful ribbed joinery of the supports adds such character and charm to this simple piece, exhibiting the true beauty of the natural grain and craftsmanship.
Oso Industries - Crinkle Cube
Oso Industries launch their new 'Crinkle Cube' storage unit - a fascinating play with material, using concrete to produce panels that clad the structure, mimicking a crinkled surface such as that of paper or card for a playful and fun design.
De La Vega Designs - Giac Settee
An elegant piece with a sculpted yet classical form, De La Vega Designs - DLV, displays their Giac settee, named after Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti, renowned for his Cubist designs. Emphasising the quality of craft and luxurious materials, the furniture collection is refined and easily paired with a variety of interior styles.
Erickson Aesthetics - Spectrum
An experimental LED lighting piece by Erickson Aesthetics, 'Spectrum' immediately catches the eye with its beautiful gradient of colours. Stacking twenty individually coloured metal cuboids together in a stepped formation, the result is a spectacular lighting piece that stops visitors in their tracks.
Noble Goods - Le Chain
Taking the familiar form of a chain and turning it into something beautiful - Noble Goods suspend three of their bespoke 'Le Chain' designs from the ceiling to demonstrate the possibilities and qualities of their creations. Each link is unique, constructed from either wood, concrete or resin and can be produced in customisable lengths and sizes.
Going further than many other design exhibitions, Next Level dedicated an entire floor to an installation with a heart. Asian emporium Pearl River Mart donated rice-paper lanterns which were customised by 70 New York City artists and exhibited on the lower level of Next Level. The bulbs were donated by British lighting brand Tala, creating an enchanting installation during the show for visitors to explore. With each design available to purchase, a percentage of the proceeds go to the Robin Hood Foundation - a charitable organisation that attempts to alleviate problems caused by poverty in New York City.
