Lee Broom: Observatory
Lee Broom unveils his latest collection of designs, the first of a three-phase launch 'Observatory' during the 2018 edition of Salone del Mobile.
Lee Broom wows the crowds at the 2018 edition of Salone del Mobile as he unveils 'Observatory', the first of a three-phase collection launch. Broom introduces celestial-inspired lighting designs within four collection styles titled Eclipse, Orion, Aurora and Tidal. Showcasing the designs in a beautiful Grade listed building within the Brera district of Milan, visitors were able to see the pieces for the first time up close with Broom on hand to talk through the inspiration.
Aurora
A beautiful contemporary chandelier design with bespoke scalable sizes, available between a 40cm and 1.5-metre diameter. Using new technology, the linear LED lights contained within the hand-blown reeded bulbs are custom designs created in-house by the team. These fascinating bulbs lure the eye in to explore the mesmerising forms and contemporary detail present. The closer the viewer gets to the Aurora chandeliers, the more detail is revealed.
Orion
Orion comprises two lighting units, one as a polished brass tube with an illuminated sphere, the other contrasting with an illuminated tube and polished brass sphere. The lights can be suspended horizontally and vertically allowing for greater customisation with almost an endless amount of configurations as multiple units are grouped together to create illuminated sculptures.
Eclipse
Incorporating three variations of the design into the collection, the Eclipse lighting consists of a mirror-polished stainless steel disc intersecting an illuminated acrylic disc to produce striking forms and reflections as one moves around the surrounding space. The range consists of a single pendant light, chandelier, table lamp, and surface light. Whilst it is such a simple concept, each piece presents its own unique character in such a way that it can easily be mistaken for an entirely different design, an example of how versatile Eclipse can be.
Tidal
A polished chrome sphere, split in half to produce two hemispheres delicately balancing on top of one another. A shift between the two allows for light to appear from within, reflecting off the chrome in multiple directions. The majestic forces that surround the design create an instant feature as the hemispheres appear frozen in motion by an unseen gravitational force.
In a significant departure from the conventional design week model of previewing new designs several months before they go on sale, products from OBSERVATORY are available to purchase immediately in-store and online, offering customers instant access to the show and the collection for the first time.
It comes as no surprise that the response to Observatory has been overwhelmingly positive as Broom continues to challenge perceptions and test technologies to produce works of functional art to compliment contemporary interior design.
