Studio Ashby: Floral Court, Covent Garden

Studio Ashby styles the interiors of the Floral Court Collection Penthouse in London's Covent Garden.

Studio Ashby style the centrepiece to Capco's Floral Court development in London's Covent Garden. At almost 5,000 square feet, the penthouse exhibits an artistic and contemporary style with fine craftsmanship and bespoke British design at its heart. The development also boasts four private terraces with impressive views across London, over some of the city's famous landmarks including the Houses of Parliament and the London Eye. If that was not enough, the penthouse also benefits from exclusive access and services from the luxury brands on the Covent Garden estate.

The studio curated every room around beautiful works of art, using the selected paintings to dictate the colour palette, materials and opulent furnishings used within each space. At the entrance, a large reception area greets guests, containing a bespoke central sofa, positioned around a live edge organic elm coffee table, perfectly framed by a handmade rug inspired by Abstract Impressionist art below. Overlooking the reception room is the work by London-based artist, Christabel Forbes, a striking piece that takes inspiration from the Covent Garden landscape that surrounds.

The focal point of the dining room is the spectacular table created in collaboration with florist, Mary Lennox, a work of art in itself, paying homage to Covent Garden’s history as a flower market. The table incorporates intricately selected dried flowers meticulously arranged beneath a glass surface. This ties in with the overall green, rust, red and golden palette of the room. Suspended above the dining table is an organic light canopy with twisted metal florals and foliage, designed in collaboration with British makers Cox London.

A calming palette of blues and yellows with subtle touches of dusty rouge dress the three bedrooms, taken from British Artist, Anne Rothenstein's 'Figures on a Beach' artwork. Layers of texture and patterns decorate the room from the luxurious red velvet used on the headboards to the textured throws and decorative cushions and accessories that dress the bed. The master bedroom contains a dressing room, terrace and bathroom, complete with a contemporary freestanding tub with inspiring views across the city.

With its four private terraces spanning 1,132 square feet, Studio Ashby collaborated with landscape and garden design practice, Hay Designs, to create seasonal planting of undulating florals, meadow planting and foliage. Fixed both seating intergrates into the raised flower beds, creating an intimate environment to relax or entertain within. Handcrafted wooden dining and armchairs provide flexibility to the space while adding homely touches with burnt orange fabric detailing on the lounge chairs and upholstery.
