Golden: Warrior One

Australian Design Studio 'Golden' complete 'Warrior One' a yoga studio in Bayside, Melbourne.

Inspired by the client’s deep connection to the ocean and desire to create an organic, sensory experience for its guests, Australian design studio 'Golden' completes the impressive 260m2 'Warrior One' Yoga studio located in Bayside, Melbourne. Using an inviting colour palette of earthy tones, the studio creates a beautiful oasis, layering natural textures such as sisal, wood and stone to create a harmonious space designed with wellbeing at its heart.

Greeting guests at the entrance is a large custom-built stone counter; an abstract form echoed across many of the design elements within the studio, including the oversized pendant lights also located in the entrance and reception area. Whitewashed walls direct attention towards the natural textures of the interior, subtly introducing soft hues into the surroundings. The defining grains of the dark wooden storage unit reaches from the polished concrete floor up to the unique sisal covered ceiling, showcasing branded products and directing guests to the washrooms and studio facilities at the heart of the building.

Expansive fluted-glass sliding doors filter daylight into the first of two yoga studios, divided by custom bi-fold doors detailed with decorative paper and solid oak. Integrated wooden joinery provides a platform for the instructor while cleverly concealing equipment away when not in use. The design of the storage facilities offers easy and direct access to items while not intruding on the overall design and profile of the studio space. Architectural hardwood beams overhead create a subtle rhythm, and the continuation of the hand-textured whitewashed walls enhance the sense of raw and organic, completing the design and clearing the mind.

Guest amenities and changing rooms continue the notion of a calming retreat. Joinery crafted in warm walnut timber-veneer is designed to house personal belongings during a guest's visit, while custom day beds encourage moments of quiet reprieve both before and after sessions. The adjacent bathrooms make a bold statement with their use of impressive pink slabs of marble, paired with beautiful brass fixtures and fittings to add an essence of indulgence and luxury.

Golden showcase the true relationship between the design of an interior and the functionality of the space. Creating an oasis of calm that helps focus the mind during yoga and other studio sessions, the design studio makes no compromise on luxury, a testament to beautiful design in what one might assume is an unlikely place.
