Cox London: VIP Lounge, Collect 2020
Cox London work with Rachel Chudley to design the VIP Lounge at the Crafts Council Collect 2020.
For the 2020 edition of Collect; the international art fair for modern craft and design, Cox London was invited by the Crafts Council to transform the fair's VIP lounge with their sculptural furniture and interior art pieces. Working alongside interior designer Rachel Chudley, the designers created a show-stopping space, the first VIP lounge at the fair's new location at Somerset House. Already familiar and a huge fan of Christopher and Nicola Cox's work, as well as admiring Rachel Chudley's beautiful interior designs, Collect could not ask for a better dream design team.

Building upon Rachel Chudley’s concept for the lounge, the studio designed and created an entirely new collection of work for the fair. The new pieces take inspiration from the architecture and history of Somerset House, designed in reaction to the strong classical lines and proportions of the architecture. The designs break away from the symmetry and clean strong lines and present themselves in beautiful, organic and free forms. Nicola and Christopher were also influenced by Rachel's focus on the building, destruction and subsequent rebuilding of Somerset House from its first conception in 1547 to the structure we see and love today. Many of the materials in the new collection reflect Somerset House's maritime past.
Stand-out pieces and personal favourites include the impressive 'Magnolia Chandelier' - an organic lighting design forged in iron with magnolia blooms formed from moulded jute. 'Las Pozas Wall Art' - a beautiful wall-mounted iron and bronze sculpture/screen that takes inspiration from Edward James' surrealist sculpture garden in the mountains of Mexico. Last but not least, the 'Dada Sofa and Chair' - is inspired by the architecture of traditional upholstery with a nod to maritime materials.
