Belmond Andean Explorer

Discover the luxurious interiors and experience of the Belmond Andean Explorer, South America’s first luxury sleeper train.

A brand with luxury design and experience at its heart; It all began in 1976 when they received the keys to the Belmond Hotel Cipriani in Venice. Expanding ever since and taking on a vast array of impressive projects from safaris to river cruises, it is the interior designs of their sleeper trains that have been attracting a considerable amount of attention. Launching back in 2017, the brand announced the launch of the 'Belmond Andean Explorer', South America's first luxury sleeper train, transporting its guests through Peru's most exceptional locations for an experience like no other.

The interior designs of the Andean Explorer reflect Peruvian culture, mixing vibrant colours with natural tones. While inspired by the classic vintage luxury of old sleeper trains, there is an embrace for contemporary style, providing a fresh approach to rail travel. Details and finishes are that of what you would expect from a luxurious 'grounded' hotel with fine timber finishes, linen-covered walls and beautiful leather seating. The large picture-frame windows of the carriages offer the perfect vantage point of the ever-changing scenery as the train winds through the Andes, continually changing the feel of the interiors.

Dining is an integral part of the travel experience and every detail of the train's two dining carriages; Llama and Muña are carefully planned out. Elegant spaces that transport guests to a time of opulence and grandeur with their muted hues, luxurious leather upholstery and artisanal millwork.

The Explorer offers three types of accommodation; the 'Bunk Bed' and 'Twin Bed' cabins that feature a long banquette that transforms into two comfortable single beds, complete with private en-suite bathrooms. For those looking to experience the ultimate in luxury, the 'Suite Cabins' contain a plush double bed and comfortable seating area, with two leather upholstered arm-chairs and table. The suite includes a compact wardrobe and en-suite bathroom fashioned from local stone, a fitting reference to the impressive scenery and landscapes that surround. Colourful accessories add elegant, homely touches, from the vibrant tasselled cushions and throws to the beautiful artworks and trims that introduce layers of character.

The observation car with its outdoor terrace becomes the social hub of the train. During the day, it is a place to enjoy the impressive views, connecting to the outside world. During the evening, as the sun sets, it becomes a destination to enjoy a cocktail and dance to live Latin music.

Belmond and their Andean Explorer return luxury rail travel back to its golden age. The challenges faced in creating luxurious interiors within the confines of a narrow train carriage is a testament to the brand and its ability to go above and beyond expectations. Whether guests stay for one or two nights on the Explorer, the mesmerising views both inside and out of the train will give them an experience that they will cherish forever.
