11 Howard, New York

The designer hotel with a luxurious, Scandinavian inspired style and a huge heart to match. Discover more from the 11 Howard hotel in New York.

Injecting Scandinavian quality and design into the iconic Soho neighbourhood in lower Manhattan, 11 Howard has not only created something visually stunning for visiting guests to admire, use and enjoy, but it has also created something with a conscience, continually giving back to the community and benefiting its surroundings. This hotel has taken luxury in a new direction, one that is not only beautiful on the surface, but beautiful deep within the foundations of the brand itself. I take a look around this incredible hotel, discover the beautiful designs and learn just what conscious hospitality means to the brand.

From the moment of arrival, guests are surrounded by calming natural tones, floral displays and impressive art showcasing within the spaces of the reception, lobby and lounge. This is a welcome contrast to the excitement and busy streets surrounding the hotel. There is an artistic presence throughout the entirety of the design with each space represented in a different way. The lobby has a minimalist feel, combining luxurious stones and textures with modern art suspended from the ceiling. The lounge exchanges stones and solid surfaces for softer variations of wood, fabric and upholstery, creating a moment of calm and relaxation for guests that want to escape the hectic city life.

The blond restaurant and bar with its large arched windows facing out over Howard Street are where we start to see a beautiful injection of colour. Focal points have been created by grouping vibrant colours within the artwork, floral displays and even incorporating them into the upholstery of lounge seating as you can see above. These colours, whilst not overpowering, add excitement and personality to an area that is designed to be social and relaxing. The ambience of the bar changes from the morning daylight to the evening's sunset, adjusting the mood and setting to the day's requirements.

With eleven room options available to guests, there is a size and shape to fit all. I could not feature the rooms without mentioning the incredible Terrace suite, with French doors that open out onto a private terrace with breathtaking views of the New York skyline. Consisting of a separate bedroom with two bathrooms, a living space, full working kitchen and dining room, the terrace suite is a luxury home away from home. The rooms have been inspired by Danish design, emphasising the quality of the product and the beauty of natural materials. Soft pink pastels drape the crisp white bedsheets, adding serenity and calmness whilst complimenting the luxury gold accessories and rich blue drapery.

As mentioned before, 11 Howard has a guiding principle of conscious hospitality. It is fantastic to see a hotel giving back to the neighbourhood and its surroundings. Each aspect of the hotel from the location, amenities and services has been considered in a wider aspect that benefits more than just the hotel. This means that 11 Howard has a reach beyond the doorstep of its magnificent hotel and reaches out to the community, giving back to charitable organisations which in turn help the locals and people in need.
