Wonderglass: Kosmos
Wonderglass took over Istituto dei Ciechi during Milan Design Week to showcase their latest collaborations with Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec and Fornasetti.
Glassware and contemporary design company Wonderglass put on a spectacular show titled 'Kosmos' at Istituto dei Ciechi during this year's Milan Design Week. The brand showcased its latest collaborations with Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec and Fornasetti alongside colourful sculptures, furniture and innovative glass designs that emit the brand's unique character and charm.
Alcova: Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec
Simple and abstract forms crafted in a beautiful and eye-catching palette of colours, Alcova has been designed by the internationally renowned French duo Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. The collection has been described by the designers as a "series of coloured cast glass geometrical shapes that are organically composed." with the creation process the designers allowed the thickness of the glass and the manipulation of the molten glass guide them to create the finished pieces. Whilst clearly man-made, each of the designs has such a natural and flowing presence, combining two processes together to create works that are incredibly beautiful and instantly desirable.
Through the Clouds: Fornasetti
With an entirely different approach and presence 'Through the Clouds' has been designed by the iconic Italian decorative atelier Fornasetti. This beautiful collection of lighting designs has been inspired by daydreaming with delicate glass clouds floating above the viewer's head, suggesting a different point of view of the world. Obelisks protrude from the clouds, a reference to the ancient Egyptians that worshipped the obelisk as a symbol of the sun god. Each design has been hand-made and contains the iconic Fornasetti print, merged with the artisanal approach of Wonderglass for a marriage made in heaven.
Invisible Cities (Origins): Wonderlab & Studiopluz - Invisible Cities: J&PEG
Like a child in a toy shop, there was an immediate attraction to the Invisible Cities installation by J&PEG with its mesmerising colourful blocks and towers of glass allowing the viewer to get lost in the design as they encircle the display. The main element of the installation is an impressive stop-motion film created by the artistic duo of a glass ball lost in a magical world that celebrates the utopian vision of the city and the role of glass within its architecture and urban environments. The video is so captivating with its colourful displays and enchanting music that it is possible to watch it on loop several times before even realising.
Echo - Studiopluz
An excellent piece inspired by the origins of the universe. Echo has been designed by Studiopluz and consists of illuminated glass discs fusing glass with sound to produce a stimulating soundscape, evocative of the gravitational waves that come from black holes. As the viewer walks around this design, it transforms before their eyes with no angle looking the same.
