Interior Design: Contemporary Conversion
A conversion concept to transform a small two bedroom London flat into a luxury one bedroom apartment with en suite and walk through wardrobe. A main focus was to create a flow of colour and light through the apartment by creating an open plan kitchen and living room space. To create a visual flow, at least two materials have been used to link each room together. Darker materials and rich colours have been used at the front of the apartment which then flow into natural lighter tones at the back of the apartment. The original second bedroom space has been divided between the en suite bathroom and master bedroom whilst the adjoining built in wardrobe has been expanded to create an additional guest water closet, accessed via the hallway.
Living Room – Open storage centralised to one main unit. Use of natural, untreated and exposed materials such as oak flooring, stainless steel, white linen, purple fleece and dark wood feature furniture.
Kitchen – Removal of partition wall to living room. Use of white ceramic tiles, slate and stainless steel. Continuation of untreated oak wood flooring from the living room.
Bathroom – Expansion of original bathroom into second bedroom to create the en suite bathroom with walk through wardrobe. Use of water friendly materials such as slate, cracked glass, brushed steel and pure white towelling.
Bedroom – Expansion of bedroom into second bedroom to link with the en suite bathroom. Use of light, friendly and natural materials. Untreated oak, white wood, stainless steel, chocolate fleece and light green accents.
