Martyn White Designs is thrilled to announce its media partnership with Clerkenwell Design Week for a third consecutive year. Between 22nd - 24th May, the Martyn White Designs blog and social media platforms will cover events and exhibitions during the week. Projects on display at this year's design week include a collaboration between Hakwood and Shape London titled 'Behind Closed Doors' (image below) a 3.2 metre high installation designed and fabricated by Shape London. It will consist of a miniature street-scape that draws inspiration from the Dutch home of Hakwood as well as Shapes’ South East London Design Studio.

#YourToteCounts (below) will address the issue of a surplus of tote bags, replacing unsustainable plastic bags. A Screen Press installation will be situated outside Farringdon Station, where visitors can bring unwanted totes to be customised with designs created by Chelsea College of Art students giving them new life, with proceeds going to Maggie’s Centre, while an exhibition at Design Fields will display a collection of favourite tote bags, chosen by a selection of designers and design writers.

A number of practices including, TDO Architecture, have been commissioned to create way-finding sculptures in polystyrene that will be situated around Clerkenwell during the week. The sculptures will be produced by Bakers Patterns who specialise in polystyrene model making and manufacturing, having worked with leading designers from Zaha Hadid, Disney, Marvel & Antony Gormley. Polystyrene is one of the most sustainable materials as it can be endlessly recycled.

New street furniture will also be making an appearance (below) as designer Lou Corio Randall showcases his Pipe Line creations, demonstrating a new colourful approach to street furniture that incorporates bike racks and benches in one continuous curved line of steel. The pieces have been finished in Clerkenwell Design Week's iconic pink colour and are designed with durability in mind, contributing to Clerkenwell's vibrant and talented community.
