Arthur Hooper's: Restaurant Opening

Designed by Buster + Punch, Arthur Hooper's restaurant and bar promote beautiful European dishes set against a backdrop of monochromatic contemporary finesse.
Opening in May, Arthur Hooper's restaurant and bar have gone from strength to strength, attracting guests with its clean contemporary style and beautiful selection of European plates, inspired by the fresh ingredients readily available at Borough Market directly opposite.
The fifty-one seater restaurant has been designed and exclusively handcrafted by Buster + Punch, their London showroom only a short distance from the restaurant itself. Recently derelict, the building has always had a connection to food and the local community. This strong connection and its prominent location opposite the city's iconic Borough Market have been the main source of inspiration when restoring and designing the new restaurant and bar space.
Set partially under one of the arches leading into the busy London bridge station, the restaurant and bar have a unique presence with the main seating area set under the tall arched ceiling with the longest wall adorned with tall dark wood and glass fronted cabinets, curiously revealing the forms of wine bottles stored behind. Grey upholstered booth seating has been paired with natural wood dining chairs and matching bar stools to add a softer side to the design. The opposite side of the restaurant contains the main bar area and additional circular tables located near the front entrance, perfect for larger groups, creating a welcoming and intimate feeling to the room.
Finishing touches to the restaurant and bar include the crafted steel caged light fittings, a new addition to the Buster + Punch range, adding a striking sculptural presence and a beautiful contrast to the custom hexagonal concrete floor. Intriguing contemporary art works by artists Matt Small and Dan Hillier are on display, injecting shots of colour with their electric neon surrounds. The outdoor terrace area allows guests to enjoy dining on the newly pedestrianised Stoney Street, extending the bar space outwards, connecting it to the excitement and movement of the market outside.
Having the opportunity to sample the menu for myself, I can honestly say that I was amazed by tastes of every single dish that I tried. Chef Lale Oztek’s selection of seasonal European plates perfectly matches the mindset and styles of food that we like to associate with at certain times of the year. Locally sourced from traders including Cannon & Cannon and Androuet, it is a guarantee that every dish is as flavoursome as the next and that every visit to Arthur Hooper's is as unique an experience as the first.
