Victoria + Albert at At The Chapel

Explore a British boutique hotel located in Bruton with a unique charm and incredible history.
I have always found the conversions of properties and public buildings incredibly fascinating. Taking a space that has been designed for a particular use and then reinventing it, restoring its character and returning the space, often disused or forgotten back to its former glory. To capture the original features and charm whilst reinventing the space is no easy task, that is why it is so impressive when you see it executed correctly.
At The Chapel, as its name would suggest, is a former chapel located in Bruton, Somerset. Opening in 2008 as a restaurant, bar, artisan bakery and wine shop, the site has gone on to achieve international recognition for its style, products and services. Expanding further, At The Chapel now boasts an eight room boutique hotel and even a branch of the Hauser and Wirth gallery, seen in Zurich, London and New York. It is the boutique hotel however that I wanted to share with you to reveal the stunning spaces that are contained within.
The redesigned spaces take on a luxurious contemporary style, embracing the building's original features and details, allowing them to take a central focus within each space. This contrast of style from traditional to contemporary helps clearly define new from old, removing any concept of imitation and allowing a luxury style to pass through the new space. This impressive feat of design is most apparent in the hotel's bathrooms, usually one of the most difficult spaces to restore.
Wrapped in pristine marble, the bathrooms create a beautiful centrepiece to the hotel's design. Bursting with character, each one has been individually designed and tailored to its location within the building, emphasising original features such as the wide archway supports, gothic arched windows and exposed beams that run throughout. At the heart of any luxury bathroom is the bath itself and At The Chapel have selected the very best for their spaces, using the Victoria + Albert free standing Barcelona and ios baths in classic white. The selection of baths is no coincidence with these luxurious free standing designs having the ability to draw attention whilst not detracting from the original fabric of the building.
Victoria + Albert are giving you a chance to win a two night stay at this stunning boutique hotel! This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Victoria + Albert brand and in celebration of their incredible achievements across the globe, they are launching the Soak and Stay competition. (Please note that this competition has now closed)
