Sybille de Margerie designs the interiors for Hotel D. in Geneva; a 57 room boutique hotel that takes inspiration from its picturesque surroundings.
Sybille de Margerie designs the interiors of Hotel D. Geneva - a boutique hotel containing 57 rooms and suites, a short walk from the picturesque Lake Geneva. The collaboration is the studio's second after the successful completion of Hotel D. Strasbourg, part of the Diana Hotels Collection. The designs take inspiration from the iconic location, celebrating the culture and nature of the surrounding region.
The lobby showcases the precision and fine craftsmanship through a combination of luxurious materials and precious stones. The black grained silver marble floor beautifully accentuates the sleek furniture designs and golden hues that dress the interior. The impressive floor to ceiling geometric screens is a bespoke created by the interior architect and designer, inspired by the effect and layers of snow as it builds upon railings. The character of the space is further defined with the inclusion of smoked glass, walnut wood and lacquer finishes, transforming with the evolving light of the day.
The breakfast room welcomes guests with a beautifully muted colour palette of grey, silver and copper tones complemented by an intriguing collection of materials used in the decor to soften edges and add depth to the room. Flamed enamel metal line the tops of the tables, subtly reflecting the natural light and patterns of the cloud-etched wallpaper. Hand-blown crystal lighting pendants with copper detail emulate the theme of clouds and weightlessness, depicting a blown bubble captured motionless in time.
Subtle references to Swiss culture decorate of the hotel's rooms and suites. Sybille de Margerie selects soft blue and grey shades extracted from the sights of Lake Geneva, adorning the ceilings and walls as well as select accessories in many of the rooms. Vibrant pops of scarlet have been used in recognition of the country's flag, appearing in the finishes of the interior's pendant lighting, bedside tables and upholstery of the feature seating.
On the fifth floor, nestled under the roof, shades of green and yellow embrace the colours of the surrounding mountains, creating the feeling of freshness and contentment. The taupe fleece headboard is associated with soft anise accessories, a nod to Swiss painter Ferdinand Holder's depiction of Lake Geneva and the Alps. The enveloping and organic shapes of the suite’s furniture blend with natural materials such as walnut, tinted oak, linen and leather to create an unforgettable and luxurious experience.
Luring visitors from across the globe with its dramatic landscape and beautiful culture, Sybille de Margerie manages to capture an elegant slice of Genevan life, packaging it in a luxurious and contemporary form. The impressive selection of materials and layering of textures creates a home away from home, ensuring visitors feel even more connected to this beautiful city and what it has to offer. The best interior design not only considers the space within, it feels connected to a greater story and its surroundings, something that Sybille de Margerie has achieved when designing Hotel D. Geneva.
