Exhibiting at the London Business Design Centre, Sleep is Europe’s hotel design, development and architecture event.

In November, the Business Design Centre in London opened its doors to the Sleep event, Europe's leading hotel design exhibition and trade show event that covers development, design and architecture for the hotel markets. I had the great privilege of attending the show to discover new brands and have a fascinating insight and behind the scenes look at the hotel design industry. See below just a few of my favourite design discoveries from the 2017 event.

J&J Teixeira

An incredible stand that attracted a lot of attention during the event. J&J Teixeira, a company based in Portugal, showcased the best in woodworking and design solutions, wowing the crowds with their beautifully crafted walk-in wardrobe designs and impressive sculpted wall art. This brand really can do anything with wood, ranging from wardrobes and flooring to furniture, interior coverings and even cabins.

The mesmerising and unique lighting designs of Quasar stand attracted my attention and lured me over to discover more. Based in Holland, this brand has a portfolio iconic designs and talented artists and designers which it showcases to the world. Everything from integrated curved copper wall lights to metal grids of twinkling LEDs, Quasar has it covered. Transforming lighting designs into sculptural works of art to stop people in their tracks.

Duran Lighting & Interiors

Standing out against the crowds, Duran Lighting & Interiors attracted my attention with its dramatic use of texture, material and detail. Exhibiting a range of furniture, lighting and accessory designs, Duran is able to inject the person and homely touches that we experience in some of the finest boutique hotels. It was the Mazaron caged pendant lighting designs that stole the show, a series of shapes and styles that illuminate the surrounding brass coloured cage to emit a sense of warmth with an industrial character.

Curtis Furniture

Combining vibrant colours and playful textures with luxurious contemporary design, Curtis Furniture was another brand on the top of my discovery list.  Specialising in the design, manufacture and installation of hotel furniture, the brand covers a wide range of styles to cover everything from hotel suites to reception, restaurant and bar areas. What I loved about this brand was their ability to showcase the diversity in their products on their stand through an artistic approach, layering materials, textures and surfaces together.

With my very first sleep event over, I must say how impressed I was with the huge range of brands and designers exhibiting, catering for services in all areas of design. One event down, I cannot wait for it to return in 2018.
