Matter of Stuff presents a concept pop-up design gallery designed by Raw Edges for the 2018 edition of the London Design Festival.
During the 2018 edition of the London Design Festival, Matter of Stuff launched a concept pop-up design gallery designed by Raw Edges. The gallery showcased the brand's unique expertise; commissioning design, researching materials, and showcasing works from renowned design brands. Located within the Kings Cross design district in a newly finished commercial unit in Fenman House, and with the support of their manufacturing partners Teamworks and Utopica, the exhibition unveiled new research in materials, finishes and textures within the furniture, lighting and interior design industries.
The installation was designed by Raw Edges and consisted of a repeated single element - a wooden dowel suspended from the ceiling by a blue string. Hundreds of identical wooden dowels transformed the gallery space, working as an architectural tool to define spaces, create partitions and provide a striking background to the main exhibit: the furniture and lighting designs, all without being intrusive and dramatically changing the fabric of the unit.
Newly unveiled material textures and inlays designed by PiM Studio were displayed with ceramics tiles designed by Gio Ponti, Giles Miller, Stella McCartney and Ferragamo. Furniture designs included renowned pieces from Matter of Stuff’s own furniture and lighting collection, including the Lunar, Orbit and Solar chairs by Bohinc Studio and Echo table by Uufie.
These works exhibited alongside beautiful pieces from international design brands including Bocci, CC-Tapis, De La Espada, La Chance, Made in Ratio, Marset, Tala, Utopia and Utility, Wonderglass, Flos, Ladies and Gentlemen Studio and more. Independent designers and acclaimed artists will also enrich the show with pieces from Julian Mayor, Umberto Dattola, Simone Crestani, Philip Cuttance, Studio Sahil.
As part of a larger residency programme, Matter of Stuff hosted MOS Lates - a series of ticketed weekly design and architectural talks and workshops within the exhibition space. The talks also included featured designers and brands presented within the gallery.
