Bespoke by Decca

Last year, I had the great pleasure of judging an exciting design competition set out by Decca London. In their quest to create a unique collection furniture designs, Decca invited individuals and companies to submit their designs for a striking new collection, challenging but in keeping with the Decca brand. The winner of the competition had the opportunity for their pieces to be produced and displayed in the Decca showroom at the Chelsea Design Centre during London Design Week for guests to experience. Narrowing it down to eight designers: Elicyon, Eliská, Hélène Dabrowski Interiors, Landmass, Laura Hammett, MKV Design, Siobhan Loates Design and UniQue Home, it was the judges challenge to pick a winner.
Winning the competition was Landmass, a collection that added depth and texture with unique angular forms. Whilst the winning piece was the marble topped sideboard, the collection was so great that Decca had to create the entire collection including the coffee table, book shelf, and triangular display tray. During London Design Week, I headed down to the Decca showroom to see how the collection had progressed from concept to finished designs.
Finalists Elicyon created a large eye catching piece for the competition, a raised bar cabinet with a central octagonal cutout to display fine barware such as a decanter. Opening up the bar reveals spacious storage, internally lit with mirrored backing, allowing an entire collection of barware, spirits, and accessories to be safely stored, ready for evenings of entertainment with family and friends.
Siobhan Loates Design LTD designed a series of elegant chairs with fan detailing and matching coffee table. The collection manages to combine chic style with comfort to create stand out focal pieces for the home.
Another favourite from the competition was the sideboard designed by Hélène Dabrowski Interiors. The dark wood with impressive waves of textured brass immediately attracts the eye, creating a piece of furniture that also acts as a work of art. This design is so unlike anything else that I have seen and is fascinating to interact with in person.
It is wonderful to see such a diverse collection of furniture designs and even more impressive that a company such as Decca is willing to be challenged, demonstrating its ability to produce furniture to such varying specifications.
It was an absolute pleasure to be part of the Bespoke by Decca competition, meet with the team and be introduced to the incredible designers and companies that took part.
