Mondrian Tour, London Design Festival

On Sunday 20th September, I was thrilled to attend a tour of the Mondrian London at Sea Containers house. The Mondrian is a personal favourite for me, not just because it was designed by Tom Dixon, but because it has such a welcoming and luxurious atmosphere. Whilst the hotel is incredibly modern and artistic, it is a place that you can feel at home, sit back and admire the views. The Tour took place during The London Design festival and consisted of walks around the Foyer, Sea Containers restaurant, Private Dining, Dandelyan, Rumpus Room, a hotel suite and the spa and treatment areas.

What I particularly love about the designs are that they embrace the original building and its surroundings. Sea Containers restaurant still contains the original and exposed concrete ceiling whilst the original “S” and “C” signage displayed on the outside of the building have been preserved and are on proud display within the private dining area.

Design is at the heart of this hotel and no matter where you are in the building, there is always a beautiful feature adding character and vibrance to the space. As we made our way up to the Rumpus room, you are astounded by the beautiful views across the Thames, overlooking St Paul’s Cathedral. This bar is a new addition to the building during renovation and its design allows it to impress with its large skylight, Moooi feature lighting and glass walls to make the most of the breathtaking view.

The tour continued to the spa and treatment rooms with the iconic copper drop in the centre of the room and then up to the third floor to view one of the hotel rooms with double balcony and stunning views across the Thames overlooking many London landmarks. The tours run from Sunday 20th September until Thursday 24th September.
