Twentieth, Los Angeles

Visiting the Twentieth gallery and showroom in Los Angeles during the Los Angeles Design Festival 2019.
Celebrating their 20th anniversary during the 2019 edition of Los Angeles Design Festival, Twentieth hosted a series of events and showcases during the week, including the Henzel Studio Collaborations in their 'THE NEW' Gallery space located next door to their iconic scale clad structure. The brand is known for its curation of contemporary furnishings and home decor, bringing together an impressive group of international designers and works from a broad range of mediums.
The open plan 6,000 square foot gallery on Beverly Boulevard showcases a vast collection of designs ranging from sculptural light fittings and furniture pieces to unique and striking sculptures such as Mattia Biagi's tar-covered Bicycle and teddy bear (First and last images), transforming familiar objects into mysterious objects. Another stand-out design to immediately catch the eye is Christopher Boots' Vanity Screen (second from top), a project that has taken four years to realise. This beautiful and intriguing room divider incorporates clear and smoky quartz crystal and lapis lazuli in contrast to a moon-like surface. The screen itself cast in solid bronze.
The vaulted ceiling transforms the interior, creating more than just a gallery space; a destination for culture, events and installations. While many galleries exhibit works in a very formal way, Twentieth creates a familiarity of the unfamiliar, styling pieces as they could potentially be displayed in the home within interior style spaces, set up amongst the sculptures and lighting displays.
Twentieth sets the standard when it comes to contemporary furniture and design, a must visit for locals and visitors alike. Evolving throughout the year with new works on display, the brand is the first destination I plan to visit when I return to the City of Angels.
