Posted on May 11 2019
Running every two years at Salone del Mobile; Milan's furniture fair, Euroluce showcases the very best in lighting design from around the globe.
With over 400 luxury lighting brands present at the Euroluce exhibition, part of Salone del Mobile in Milan, the show is a staple for the lighting and design calendar. Running every two years since 1976, the halls showcase the latest devices for outdoor, indoor and industrial lighting, covering everything from shows and events, to special use lighting, home automation and systems from brands and designers around the globe. See some of the highlights and installations below from the 2019 edition of the show.
Czech-based crystal and lighting company Preciosa are not ones to shy away from an elaborate design. Taking over a vast space at this year's exhibition, the company showcased a collection of lighting installations that ranged in shape, size, and finish. The 'Carousel of Light' formed the centrepiece to the stand, based on the brand's signature design 'Pearl Curtain.' The install contains almost 8,000 spheres, suspended in a flowing motion around a circular base. 'Pearl Wave' also attracted attention with its beautiful sculptural presence and interactive design. The fascinating waved chandelier responds to sound, such as cheering and glasses clinking in a toast, sending out a burst of light.
British lighting brand Tala launched exciting new products during the show. Using upcycled materials, the 'Magma' collection is environmentally conscious yet incredibly stylish, bringing sustainable lighting design to the luxury market. Paired with Tala's range of energy-efficient bulbs, the true beauty of the recycled material is revealed, providing an elegant, soft diffusion that accentuates the detail and texture within. This year's show also saw the launch of the 'Alumina' collection; lighting designed for today's highly mobile lifestyles. Each piece has been manufactured in high-grade technical ceramic to give it a simple, yet sculptural form that allows the bulb to become part of the design.
Czech-based glassmakers Lasvit push the boundaries of glass and lighting design. Creating the sculptural lighting installation 'De-Lux-lty' - a hugely popular experimental piece that explores texture, colour and art form to create a unique take on graffiti and street art. The company also showcased several other creations under the canopy of its booth, including 'Traces'; slender glass columns inspired by the cosmic nebula, appearing to pulsate and twinkle like the stars in space. 'Aura' takes inspiration from the moon's surface and 'Liana' gives the appearance of light caught in twisted nets.
Simplicity in its most beautiful form - London-based contemporary lighting studio LUUM presents their Samara collection; pared-back, geometric designs that consist of seamlessly connected brass disks. Available in a range of formations from wall lights to table lamps and chandeliers, each piece cleverly manipulates light and shadow, extending the presence of the formations into the surroundings. The minimalist soft pastel setting of the booth directs all attention towards the impressive designs. LUUM also showcased the 'Bangle LED' installation at the entrance of the stand, consisting of varying sized hollow pyramids presented in a scattered formation, taking its inspiration from contemporary jewellery.
Austrian Fashion, Crystal and Jewellery company Swarovski continues to have a considerable presence in the city of Milan during design week, showcasing at several locations across the city. For Euroluce, the brand exhibited a diverse collection of lighting designs in a custom created 'Crystal Palace' stand that contained a central coffee, drinks and meeting destination. Works on display included the futuristic 'Luminous Reflections' and the enchanting 'Timeless Classic' collection, both by Dutch-born, London-based Lustrous Aura. The booth also presented traditional designs such as the opulent Schonbek chandeliers as well as other exciting collaborations in the brand's impressive portfolio.
